Ms. Cristina Carrascal, an OFW in San Diego, California handled being her family’s support system. Learn how she was able to manage her finances all throughout. See how IMG changed her perspective on the relevance of financial education in life.
Cristina is an all-around maid in San Diego California. She is a fighter in life, fighting poverty to live a prosperous life. Since she is the oldest among 12 siblings, she helps her parents to support the family in their everyday life. Two days after graduating high school, Cristina pursued working as a maid in Manila, then as dishwasher, oven toaster factory worker.
In 1985, he father went to sea during a typhoon, and didn't return. Their house was devastated and they waited for days. After six days, she was overjoyed to see her father again.
Cristina was wable to build a house after two decades of working, though her savings were not enough. When she was still working in Manila, all of her income was given to her family to support their financial needs. In short, she became the breadwinner of the family.
Cristina was urged to join IMG by her friend. He educated her and explained how IMG works, so she decided to join. Upon joining, she discovered that having a discount on buyibg a car was not the only benefit given to IMG members. Cristina realized that IMG would help her take care of her finances and how to manage and save them properly.
Cristina's goal is to stay in the Philippines for good and build a financial center in h er hometown to teach the younger generation financial literacy. She wants to impart her knowledge in savings and finances. She wants to help her fellow OFWs to become financially educated just as how she became as an IMG member.
